Cartavalo is an iPhone app that recognizes trading cards and shows their market value. It is built to work without an account, and your card photos never leave your iPhone. This policy explains the little data the app does handle.
Who is responsible
Cartavalo is published by Cesare D’Adamo, an independent developer, who is the data controller for the data described here. You can reach us at [email protected].
Card photos and the camera
When you scan a card, the photo is analyzed on your iPhone with Apple’s on-device text and shape recognition. Photos are not uploaded, stored on our servers or shared with anyone. If you pick a photo from your library, only that photo is read, and only on your device.
Your collection
The cards you add, their condition, quantity and the prices you paid are stored on your iPhone. A backup is saved to your own iCloud account through Apple’s iCloud key-value storage, so your collection comes back on a new iPhone. We cannot access your iCloud data. You can turn iCloud off for Cartavalo in the iPhone Settings app.
Prices
To show card values, the app downloads public price data. These requests contain card identifiers, not personal data. Prices come from Cardmarket through the TCGdex service, and currency conversions use public European Central Bank rates.
Usage analytics
To learn which features work and to fix crashes, the app sends anonymous usage events to PostHog, hosted in the European Union. Examples are “scan started”, “scan succeeded”, “paywall viewed” and crash reports. Each install has a random identifier; we do not collect your name, email, contacts, location or advertising identifier, and we do not track you across other apps or websites. Events never include photos or text you type.
Purchases
Subscriptions and the lifetime purchase are processed by Apple. We never see your payment details. To check what you have bought, the app uses RevenueCat, which receives a random app user identifier and Apple’s purchase receipts.
Notifications
If you allow notifications, the app schedules reminders on your iPhone, for example 2 days before a free trial ends. They are created on your device; no push token is sent to us.
Legal basis and retention
Data on your device and in your iCloud stays under your control until you delete the app or the backup. Analytics events are kept for up to 12 months and are processed on the basis of our legitimate interest in keeping the app working and improving it. Purchase records are kept as long as needed to provide what you bought and to meet legal obligations.
Processors
- Apple: App Store, payments, iCloud backup.
- RevenueCat, Inc.: purchase status.
- PostHog, Inc. (EU hosting): anonymous analytics and crash reports.
- Cloudflare, Inc.: hosting of this website.
Your rights
Under the GDPR and similar laws you can ask to access, correct or delete data about you, object to its processing or ask for a copy. Because the app has no accounts, the simplest way to remove everything is to delete the app and its iCloud data (iPhone Settings → your name → iCloud → Manage Storage). For anything else, write to [email protected]. You can also complain to your local data protection authority.
Children
Cartavalo is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect their personal data.
This website
This website does not use cookies or trackers. Our host, Cloudflare, processes technical data such as IP addresses to deliver and protect the site. When you tap a download button, we count the click before sending you to the App Store.
Changes
If this policy changes, we update this page and the date above.
